US Marines kill more than 70 Taliban leaders in Afghanistan

U.S. Marines in Afghanistan killed dozens of Taliban leaders last week using rocket artillery after tracking them to a meeting in volatile Helmand Province, according to the top American general in Afghanistan Wednesday.

U.S. Forces Afghanistan said more than 50 Taliban commanders, including the deputy Taliban shadow governor of Helmand was killed. Taliban leaders from six other provinces across Afghanistan were killed as well in the strike in the Musa Qala district of Helmand, according to the statement.

Twenty other Taliban leaders were killed in air strikes earlier this month by drones and Air Force A-10 Warthog jets based in neighboring Kandahar, which arrived earlier this year along with thousands of additional American troops.

That article you posted says they are holding 'secret' talks to try for a peace deal. I have a 'why bother' attitude and think that's a waste of time unless it's a means to an end in discovering the who what where's of the taliban.

Islamic State militants disguised in foreign military uniforms attacked Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry compound in Kabul on Wednesday, killing at least one, officials said.

The attack started with an explosion at the entrance of the ministry 12:10p.m. and it involved use of grenades and gunfire.
The Interior Ministry in a statement said that the attack involved 10 suicide attackers who arrived in two armoured vehicles and who were wearing foreign military uniforms.
