A New EU law came into effect today known as General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Apparently it makes it illegal for companies to collect user data, share it and use it for targeted advertising without users giving consent.
Some US news sites have already stopped providing access to their sites for EU users.

Interesting indeed. Some people claim that it's EU censorship on the US media (judging by LA Times aborted service or so I guess). Other say that US webs spyed and collected personal data of Europeans so they have to cancel the operations now. But your hint regarding the sanctions and tariffs is really interesting.
